Homemade Ice Cream

We had nothing scheduled for today.  Just a day to hang out and be chill.

When it is this hot and climbing, it is hard to be chill.

I had made some ice cream base.  A custard base with a vanilla bean scraped in.  The stuff tasted good, but it needed to cool in the fridge for a few hours

It is starting to come together.

It's taking forever!
More like 10 minutes, but it just seemed like forever!

Almost there

The best part of homemade ice cream!

It tasted great!

This is the recipe I used:

Vanilla Ice Cream

4 large egg yolks
1/2 cup of sugar
2 cup whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
1 vanilla bean, split and scraped

Mix egg yolks and sugar in a bowl and beat till pale yellow in color.
Pour milk and cream into a sauce pan, heat till just bubbles form on the edges.  DO NOT LET THIS BOIL EVER
Take a little of the warm milk, and whisk it into the egg mixture.  Then pour the egg mixture into the warm milk. Let it all come up to warm.  )at ;east 160f but not more than 180f, this will cook the eggs enough to make sure they are not harbouring bacteria! ) Once it coats the back of a spoon, remove from heat. Cool. Place in the fridge for several hours to cool completely. You can add fruit or anything else you want at this point.  Freeze according to your ice cream freezer directions.
