Day 9: Happy Fourth Of July!

We spent a wonderful relaxing day in Bethlehem! It is so pretty here. Lon's Godmother is a great hostess!
Lon opened up his birthday present. A science kit, with all the fun experiments for a kid his age! It is super cool. Even had safety glasses
The first experiment he had to try was the mentos in pop. He thought that was more fun than just about anything he had ever done before.
The gas balloon was pretty fun too
Marshmallow shooter!  This is the most fun science kit EVER
Then Lon and Uncle Peter stayed at home while Mommy and Godmother went to the biggest most well stocked most fun grocery store I think I had ever been in.  I am mailing a box home of some pretty yummy things I can not find at home. Just one box, I promise.
Lon, was waiting patiently for us to return. He wanted to show us the FOUR  pop geyesers! FOUR! He thinks he needs more mentos tubes, that way he can do more at one time.  I think one is enough.
After the pop explosions, we went to the Peep's store. Just Born is here, the factory where they make the peeps and Mike and Ikes.  Lon wanted me to model my peep hat. He loves his.
History Bit about Just Born:
Russian immigrant Sam Born came to the United States in 1910. In 1916, Born was awarded the "key to the city" of San Francisco for inventing a machine that mechanically inserted sticks into lollipops.
In 1917, Born opened a small retail store in Brooklyn, New York. He displayed in his store window an evolving line of daily made candy, marketing its freshness with a sign that declared Just Born. The original company logo showed a baby resting in a candy measuring scale. Sam Born is also credited with the invention of chocolate sprinkles, known as "jimmies," and the hard coating on ice cream bars.
In 1923, Born started his own manufacturing company in New York City. Irv and Jack Schaffer, Born's brothers in law, joined the company to help market and sell the confections. In 1932, the trio moved operations to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. The company took over a 4 story, 224,396 sq. ft. building, built in 1920, from a bankrupt printing company.
Sam Born's son, Bob Born joined the company in 1946 and would later become President for more than 30 years. He was part of the two man team that mechanized the marshmallow Peeps forming process, allowing a substantial increase in production, leading Just Born to become America's largest manufacturer of seasonal marshmallow confections.

Lon wanted me to get this so we could bring it home with us. I am not sure we would have room for him in the car. He stayed at the Peeps store.
Most of the peeps store stayed at the peeps store. I did get myself a t-shirt with all sorts of colored peeps on it. and I got Lon a Mike and Ike shirt. Because we did that, I got a pound of Mike and Ikes free.

Those won't be mailed home, we are eating those now.
We went on a car tour of Bethlehem. Pretty town. Then we came back to the house. Uncle Peter found a box of young Peter's collection of Legos. Lon was in heaven!  LEGOS galore!

Lon is getting used to having a dog around. Kael is so nice to Lon.  He is a very good dog
Uncle Pete lit the fire pit to make s'mores!  Lon made his first one using a reese's peanut butter cup. He said that was especially delicious!
He was getting a little worn out by the heat and the excitement of the day. He did chase fireflys. We don't have those in Washington. They were the coolest bugs he had ever seen!
Then it was time for fireworks. We walked down to the end of the block, where we could see them clearly.  I had to carry Lon back he was so tired. He revived to play with Legos for a little while longer.
He had a good day, so did I.
Happy Fourth of July!
Now, as I type this it is thunder and lightening in the sky. That is pretty cool!
