Today we started out in Staunton, VA. I had heard of a place called the Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia. It was right there in Staunton. It looked like fun! It was!
After the entrance, this was the first one to greet us. He was so cute! I love goats. He was very friendly.

Wittington, the cat at the English farm house. Each farm has a cat. They are all friendly.
Wittington was the most friendly.
Reading about what a forge does. They have 4 farms, the West African, English, Irish and German. 1 Irish Forge and then you walk down a path to the Native American farm, they are still building that. Then colonial, 1820s and 1850s. The changes in each of the farms is fun and educational!

In the loft of the 1850s house.
For some reason, the garmin took us down this road. For about 40 miles. We expected to see bears. We did not .
Appomattox Court House National Historical Park Lon was so excited he could get another stamp in his National Parks Passport. We used our National Parks Annual Pass too!
The smokehouse at the McClean House.
The room where the Nation was reunited.
The kitchen of the McClean house. It is in a separate building.
Leaving Appomattox
We went to Granny Bee's for lunch. I asked for recommendations from the National Park attendants, he said if we want hometown not chain places this was the place to go. I do have to admit, the homemade rolls were out of the this world!
We walked around downtown Appomattox. It is oddly laid out and there really is not much there. We did find an antique purse I wanted at the one antique mall. Also a blue and white tin top table I would have loved to take home.
From there we were going to Petersburg. However, we could not find a hotel room. We checked several, and no dice. We thought we should just get on the road! We are staying with my sister one more night. Tomorrow is a travel day, up to Connecticut!
