Fort Moultrie

We read today was a special day at the Fort.  So we went there after the Fire Museum.
There were going to be re enactors there. I think most of them will be there tomorrow though.
It was still a great day to be at the Fort
Lon could not remember when the brick was put in, so he went and found a ranger and asked. 1808.  The rangers remembered him.
Going across to the Fort.
Re enactors!
They had camps set up inside the fort. The actors were somewhere else at the moment.
We have been to the Fort a couple times, but we had never been to the grounds beside the Fort. That is what we did today!
a row of cannons.
There were plaques to learn from out there too !
There was a beach! Who knew you could get to a little beach from the Fort !! Not sure we were allowed out there, but there was not anyone around to tell us no
More reading
Looking at the tents. They were eating lunch so we did not bother the re enactors

Checking out the powder magazine.
The door to the powder magazine.
It is big and heavy!
On our way out. We stopped and talked to the Garrison Surgeon. He talked to Lon about how a doctor for the garrison would be the doctor for the men, their wives, their children and their animals.  And more than likely if you had to go see him you would not be a whole lot better than when you came in.  He was fun to talk to.
On our way home, we were stopped for a very nasty traffic accident. While we were figuring out an alternate route to get home, we saw this hawk. He circled a few times before landing on the swing set.   We had time to take his photo.
We figured out a new route home, thanks to a quick phone call to Daddy. We hope everyone involved in the wreck is okay.
