A Sunny Day at the Beach

Today was sunny all day long! Windy, but sunny! It was nice enough to have to use sunscreen on Lon!
Lon had a pancake, again. Which is good. He can eat two pancakes that size now.  He also wants to pour his own syrup now that he is six.  He did a good job
Today our only plan was to go to the beach.  The wind was fierce. But it was sunny. However, since it looked so nice and when we were out of the wind, it was very warm. We did not dress as well as we should have. Lon did find a stream of sorts to play in at low tide this morning.
Watching sea foam float in. He was asking me what it was made from and I did not have the answer, so I told him we would look it up when we got home.
Lon and Daddy went for a walk down to the big rock.  They had a good time on their walk. I stayed where I was in the gravel bed, hunting for agates! Mark was able to find more than I did. We have a lovely collection of them now, which I am not exactly sure what we are going to do with them yet.
Lon was cold,  he and I went back to the room to warm him up in a jacuzzi bath.  Love this room!  Lon likes playing in the big tub with the jets
We had lunch at a quick pizza stop. Nothing really all that good. The wind was still blowing hard, so we thought we should check out the Lincoln County Museum. Glad we did. Nice place. And it is free!  They have some wonderful exhibits, mainly upstairs. They also have a kid's area that is great. They had an exhibit for PixieLand.  It opened right after we left Oregon, and closed before we ever got back.  I probably would have loved it as a kid! They also had some World War II exhibits, a fire fighting exhibit and a large collection of glass floats.  It was a wonderful little museum.
Lon opened the drawers looking for the costume to be a real cowboy, but found the spy glass instead. He had fun with that!  Avast there!
The Lincoln County Museum is flanked by two art glass places. This one is where you can blow your own glass float, or starfish or bowl. Lon wanted me to do this, but we do not have time to come back and pick it up. So maybe next time. He wants me to see if I can make a starfish. The other glass place is a glass fusion place that looks like something we should also try. Again it was too late in the day, they had to fire the glass to fuse it together and we are only here till the morning.  It looks like it would be alot of fun to see if we can make a little glass coaster. Lon can do this too, since it is just the placing of cold glass on top of cold glass. They put it in the kilns. This is something we are going to do!   This was all in the Taft area of Lincoln City.
Then it was back to the beach for us. What is making Lon so happy?
His kite! He had lots of fun with that kite! It was not long for this world with the wind being so strong. The string broke off the kite, I tried to put it back together, but it just did not work right. Lon was sad we had to pitch it, but he did not throw a fit about it. I did have another kite, but it was a fancy solarias kite with lots of panels and real rip stop nylon. I was afraid it would pick Lon up and carry him away, so it stayed in the hotel room. We will give that one a try when we get home, if we have enough wind there.
Lon's next project was to see if he could visit Ty in China!  He dug one heck of a hole there!  But I reminded him we had to go home tomorrow and Ty will be here in about 4 weeks.  So that was all the deeper we went.
Dinner break! Lon is looking tired, but do not let that fool you! He was up till 11:30! I hope he sleeps in a little. alot.
We went back out to the beach to take a walk and look for some more agates! I showed Lon what to look for and he found alot of them. He was also very good at finding sea glass. I have not had good luck before in finding sea glass from the pacific. This time, we found alot of it! Mark and Lon found most of it. Mark even found an orange shard. I will have to think of something beautiful to make with that.  After our agate hunt, and chatting with other agate hunters it was time for S'mores! Lon's s'more roasting technique is to light them, watch them burn a bit, blow them out and put them with the chocolate and graham cracker. it is crunchy that way, he says!
The extra large marshmallows make for some gooey eating. Yummy!
Mark's technique was to roast the marshmallow, peel off the roasted layer, eat that, and roast the remains again.  It proved to be a good technique! I am not sure why Mark looks so serious, he was having fun, we were all laughing.
Lon loves those s'mores. We were about all done with ours and another family came to the fire pit area. They were looking for a place to wash their feet off. Seems the only faucet is going to be getting fixed any time now. We heard that since last October. The little girl looked longingly at the s'mores. So since we were leaving I offered them the rest of our fixings. It worked out great since we did not have to carry the open bag of marshmallows home with us, or the graham crackers!
We went back to our room, got Lon cleaned up and watched the sun set into the Pacific.  A gorgeous end to a wonderful day.
Lon was not ready to go to sleep yet! I brought some glow bracelets, which he loves. He told me he needed the accessories to go with his steeler's jammies.  I think, perhaps, I watch too much of what not to wear.
He is now asleep, fully accessorized. Sadly, this is our last night at the beach.  A long drive ahead for the morning. Maybe Mark will go agate hunting again in the morning.  That would be fun
