Mary Washington's Home

This is the home that George purchased for his Mother, in town. He moved her in from Ferry Farm so she could be closer to her daughter, Betty. Betty's home was Kenmore.

Lon had fun. I am so glad he still fits into the Bjorn. It makes it really easy to through house museums with him strapped to me, rather than trying to carry him, and strollers are usually not compatible with the older homes.

The back of the house.

The kitchen, in another building behind the house.

The formal garden. Mary took the sundial with her from Ferry Farm. It is reported that she loved her garden and would spend hours out there.

There is a plaque that reads: These columns are from earlier and unfinished monument to Mary Washington. Here they mark a legendary path to her daughter's garden at Kenmore.

It would be nice to have my mother live that close.

The back of the house. It is a nice house.

On the way back to Grandma Phis's we had to go by Carls. yummy.
