Ketchikan, Day 2

We went to breakfast at the hotel, it was a good place for breakfast. Behind us, also having breakfast, were Santa and Mrs. Claus! REALLY. I did not take their photos due to the fact they were incognito, and I did not want to reveal their secret identities.   Lon was amazed that he got to meet Santa, in Alaska, in September!  Santa knew his name, his grade and all sorts of good stuff! Santa was so cool.  We love Santa and Mrs. Claus.  Lon thought it was really good that Mrs. Claus runs a school in Ketchikan, she is the principal.  He thinks that is the perfect job for Mrs. Claus, she would have the busy Christmas time off and what a perfect job to keep an eye on some of the kids.
Then we went out to Walmart, they had a lego on sale.  Both Lon and Grandma looked at me with big eyes and said it is a really good price Mommy. It will be lots of fun, please Mommy!  Both of them, I could not say no. We got the Lego.  We were not going to build it to later.
Our next stop was the Discovery Center.  Grandma and Grandpa Andy dropped us off. They did not want to hang around with us while Lon explored the Center.
Lon's first order of business was the treasure hunt.
12 items to find
Salmon Fry.
These little fish grow up to be dinner!
Lon likes these fish sculptures and thinks that I can make them at home. I love that Lon thinks I can make almost anything.
The big bear in the movie theater. We found out they have a Jr. Ranger program! One of the requirements was watching the movie. Lon learned lots about the Tongass.
Lon and the Ranger doing the last page of the book. Plants that can help you in the woods.
Taking the Jr. Ranger oath.  Lon takes these very seriously. Since he did more than the required pages for his age group, not only did he get his plastic pin badge, but he also got the patch. He is so proud of that. He told me that his friends that are doing the Jr. Ranger program won't be getting the pin or patch from the Tongass!
Lon learned about the main colors used on a totem, the animals in the Tongass, the limestone that makes up the islands it is called Karst, and that there are over 600 caves!

I am not sure you were allowed to stand on the statue, but no one was around. There were no cruise ships in on Saturday, so none of the stores were open. It was very quiet down town.
I really like this new piece of art, by a local artist named Dave Rubin.
We went to see a friend who runs the Great Alaska Lumberman's Show, but they were not open today.
So we went down to see the boats in Thomas Basin
Lon likes the Totem pole that was saw in town.
In front of Creek Street. We did not walk down Creek street.
Lunch at Diaz Cafe. SO yummy! Lon had fried halibut, and I had sweet and sour halibut with sweet and sour rice (little guy). and of course, I had lumpia too!  Lon ate all but one of his fish pieces.  He had the adult size portion, it was that good!
Lon saw this totem in someone's front yard. That was beyond cool. Lon loved that.
Then it was time to get ready for the Wedding! The reason we were here!
