We planned this camping trip before we left on our epic adventure. It was really fun!
Since we were going near Fort Vancouver, someone thought we should stop and get another Jr. Ranger badge.
Daddy and Lon filling out the first part
At the Fort. We waked around, then Lon filled out all the paperwork. He got his Jr. Ranger badge from Fort Vancouver! Yippeee!
We stopped for lunch in St. Helens. On our way to the coast via highway 30. The pizza was good.
We had read that there was a Ohana celebration at the KOA in Astoria. So we brought the proper shirts. Lon's was one I made, mine was a vintage one from my Dad and Mark had his Tommy Bahama! We looked good!
We saw hula dancers and this wonderful man who danced with fire. He was a joy to watch.
They had heavy snacks for us, ham, fruit, and spinach dip. We ate alot of grapes. Yummy!
The kids loved the play structure
One of the most favorite places to play was the bounce pillow! Lon was doing great things on there! But they had to share with the big kids and that was not so much fun
Lon still tries hard at mini golf. He is getting better, a little.
After dinner it was time for S'mores! Lon is roasting his marshmallow. Brian is eating his. Yummy!
The next morning Lon and Kayla were enjoying the fire.
Since Fort Clatsop was SO close, Lon and I went over there in the morning to get his Jr. Ranger badge! We are at Neutel Landing looking at a dug out canoe in the woods. This is part of his learning packet. Look at the things on the trail, find all the leaves they have you look for. Then draw one you have seen, but is not on their list. Like Lewis and Clark !
Paperwork all filled out!
Another Jr. Ranger badge! AND patch! He can go to one more Fort in the Astoria area and get another patch for learning more! He wants to come back and do that. Soon
When we got back, The Yis had never been over the Astoria Bridge, so off we went! Across the bridge and back. It was a good thing we went on Sunday. There were no construction delays!
Then we went up to the Astoria Column. I love the view from up there. The garmin did not have the directions to the column. We found that odd.
So pretty
My boys
After we got back from the column and lunch, Lon and I went to visit Bill and Danielle. On our way back to camp, we saw this lovely deer and her two fawn. It was then I realized I did not take a photo of Lon with his third set of grandparents!
Of course we went back and took care of that
Lon is not drinking Babsia's special orange juice.
and I probably spelled that wrong
Chong and I can build some great fires!
The fire was so bright behind me, the flash did not go off! We had S'mores again the second night of camping. Cause really, what is a camp out with out S'mores?
OHMYGOODNESS! In line for breakfast the next morning (free pancakes for campers, but coffee is 1.29) we saw Pirate Captain Laura! It was amazing to run into her! So much fun as always
Brian and Lon helping Mark break down the tent
Lon got one last wish, going to Pig N Pancake! Yummy. We love Pig N Pancake.
Then it was time to go home. We had tons of fun. The campground in Astoria is much cleaner than the one in Leavenworth. Sand, not dirt. I think we love both sites though. It is fun camping at KOA and we had a great time!
Looking forward to next summer's camping!
