Pine Wood Derby

In our last pack meeting before Christmas, we got our pinewood derby car.  Lon was so excited about it. We waited till after the holiday to get started.
Lon and Daddy got started on the 15th of January! Daddy shows Lon how to put the block in the vice so he can cut it into the car shape Lon drew on the side of the car.
Daddy helps Lon with the first cut
Lon did the next cuts all by himself!
The rough cut car!
Once the car was rough cut, we took a trip to Micheals to see about getting some paint and weights. Lon found this car. He thought it looked great.  We also got some stickers for the car.
Sanding the car.  Lon worked really hard to get it smooth.
We learned something about the paints they sell for the pinewood derby. The red  comes out pink. I told Lon it was the primer color and brought out my red paint.  Once it was red, Lon put on stickers and I put a coat of matte sealer on it all.
The night before the pine wood derby, Lon and Daddy attach the wheels and add the weights. The car weighs 4.9 ounces.
Ready to go to the derby!
Mark watching another tiger weigh in his car! Lon had already weighed his in at home, so we did not have to do this step
All lined up and waiting to go
Lon is the red blurs racing down the center track!
After this, my camera's battery died. It as my fault, I forgot to change out the battery.
The results! I know you are all waiting for them!
Lon was third overall in the Tiger group, and 6th overall in the pack! (well, 7th, but they had one boy who did not have a car and was given a winning car from previous years to race, but I don't count him)
We are proud of Lon for doing so well!
