Book Barn Goats and Nature's Art

They have the most wonderful used book store in Niantic, CT. It is called the Book Barn. They also have goats. As you know from reading this blog, I love little goats. We went there right after our coffee and doughnuts. The goats started off a little sluggish. I went inside the main building to look for interesting children's books and Mark, Lon and GrammaLyn looked around outside. When I came back out (I was gone 5 minutes, honest) I showed Lon how to feed the goats. They got a little more interested.
Putting money in the machine and turning the crank to get the goat kibble is really fun.
Then it came time to actually give them the kibble, that is a totally different story. Lon remembers that goat at the Evergreen State Fair how tried to eat his shirt! Not getting too near those goats!

Much better when Daddy holds me up! After feeding the goat and buying only ONE book, we went to a place in Montville called Nature's Art. The brochure said you can encounter 25 life size dinosaurs, and romp in Monty's playland. Okay, this could be fun. Lon seems to like dinosaurs well enough. The above picture is what you see when you first walk in. There is a volcano that rumbles and blows white smoke at the top of each hour.

It was a pretty place, a nice walk around the lake.

Uncle Eric was there too, but did not get in the photo. I am so glad we got the stroller, it was a longer walk than I thought it would be.

Another beauty shot.

Even though we had to stroller, we brought Eddie too, good thing as Lon wanted to walk as much as possible.

Lon and Daddy petting the dinosaur. I think this is the Styracosaurus.

They had one informational placard when you pushed the buttons it told you how the dinosaur sounded. How did they know? I really wanted to find out how they knew what they sounded like. Lon liked pushing the buttons and making something happen.

Along the trail they also had these boxes set up. You put your hand in the holes and tried to figure out what it was, or you just looked in the back to see the object. Lon was not tall enough to stick his hand in.

One last beauty shot. The at the end of the dinosaur trail.

Once you come out of the woods you are in Monty's playground. Lon thought this was a remarkably cool place.

SLIDES!

Walking on dinosaur bones!

It connected to the rope bridge.

The payoff was the rolly slide. Lon did this several times.

He rode the dinosaur for a little while, but then it was back to the slides

Lon is a great climber!

Across the bridge

Then it is down we go!

After a thrill packed morning, we were hungry. Across the street there is a clam shack called David's. I had the clams. Yummy. Lon had some of my clams and fries and some hot dog. Uncle Eric noticed that they had chickens in the back. Lon and Uncle Jeffy went to take a look.
Present day dinosaurs?
It was a really fun morning.
