Our last day in Fredericksburg

On the last day Lon and I were in Fredericksburg we went downtown. Our plan was a little last minute shopping and going to the Rising Sun Tavern. We got the shopping done, but I was getting hungry. Very hungry. We went to a place we had never been into before. Sammy T's. It is a bar. Great place. It has a painted paper mache ceiling. Our waiter said it was done in the 30s as a cheaper alternative to pressed tin, but when it finally needs replacing they will go back to pressed tin. I looked over the menu, Mom and Grandma were certain they were having the borcht. I had not yet had Crab Cakes, so I ordered the two crab cakes. I thought they were the normal size ones, about the size of your palm and about 1/4 inch thick. The ones that came were the size of softballs! I am glad I got two. Mom could not eat her soup, it was very spicey borscht. I was more than happy to share the crab cakes. Very yummy. I would definitely be going back there. We never made it to the Rising Sun. While we were eating, I looked through the Fredericksburg tourist info. They had an advertisement for a local jeweler that has custom made charms, of Kenmore, Rising Sun Tavern and there will be more of local things coming soon. I was very pleased with them. I bought a Kenmore charm, but since we never made it to Rising Sun, I will get that one later.

Lon and I petted the Belgian Draft Horses that take people around Historic Downtown Fredericksburg. Lon thought they were very special.

Mary Washington's Home

This is the home that George purchased for his Mother, in town. He moved her in from Ferry Farm so she could be closer to her daughter, Betty. Betty's home was Kenmore.

Lon had fun. I am so glad he still fits into the Bjorn. It makes it really easy to through house museums with him strapped to me, rather than trying to carry him, and strollers are usually not compatible with the older homes.

The back of the house.

The kitchen, in another building behind the house.

The formal garden. Mary took the sundial with her from Ferry Farm. It is reported that she loved her garden and would spend hours out there.

There is a plaque that reads: These columns are from earlier and unfinished monument to Mary Washington. Here they mark a legendary path to her daughter's garden at Kenmore.

It would be nice to have my mother live that close.

The back of the house. It is a nice house.

On the way back to Grandma Phis's we had to go by Carls. yummy.

Back at Grandma Phis's House.

Back at Grandma Phis's house, hanging with GiGi!

Peak leaf color in Virginia. We got to see some beautiful fall color in PA, CT and Virginia! I enjoyed seeing that.
I love this photo! It is so 6 million dollar man.

Lon loves his new toy. He wants to clean house all the time!

CHOCOLATE!

I really need some more chocolate!

We cleaned up Lon, got him a clean shirt and he was off to a new adventure.

GiGi's hat was a good start.

Okay, how are we going to get this big helmet home?

Hmmm, not so sure I want to get back in the car seat, but driving the car, that is a whole other can of worms! Now that I have the driving hat, I am good to go!

Hanging with the Godfather

On our last night in CT, we got to hang out with Godfather Damian. It was very fun. Lon kept handing him plates, cups, a fork, what ever he could find on the table. Very cute

We also hung out with Grandma some more. We love Grandma! The next morning we packed up and set out for Virginia! It was going to be a long ride, good thing we have a new kitten!

Some snacks as the scenery rolls by. Pretty nice.

In a few short hours we were back at Grandma Phis's house. We were all so glad we went. Good trip!

Mystic Seaport

I will say it again. I loved Mystic Seaport! Nothing beats just messing around in boats.

We met up with Uncle Jeffy and Uncle Tek inside the Seaport. The wind was fierce. But the sun was shining!

Grandma Phis with the Cigar Store Indian. She remembers this from when she first went to Mystic in 1964. It is nice that some things stay the same.

Such a pretty place!

Uncle Eric and Lon.

Tired baby boy at the museum. Grandma Phis made sure he was warm. We also got a wheelchair for GiGi. She was tired too!

The Seaport is 17 acres of property.

While we pushed Lon and GiGi around, Lon reached over and grabbed his GiGi's hand. He did it. We did not prompt him. Honestly, I did not even think of it. I LOVE the photo. GiGi thought it was pretty wonderful too.

We decided we were hungry. Grandma Phis remembered a wonderful place near the Seaport. She was hoping it was still there and still as good. It is called the Seaman's Inn. Yes, it is still there and still as good. Sadly, Grammy and Uncle Eric could not stay for lunch.

Lon goes through Grandma Phis's purse while we wait for our table. Grandma Phis had more oysters and scallops even! I had the seafood potpie. Lobster, shrimp and scallops in a lobster saffron sauce with a puff pastry top. Yum. Lon got some chicken poppers, but he tried the scallops, and shrimp. We forced ourselves to have dessert. Grandma Phis was not going to have anything until they said, white chocolate raspberry cream brulee. Those are all her favorites in one! I got the triple chocolate cake. I got a couple bites!

Lon loved it!

On our way out. We had a wonderful day. Uncle Tek and Lon.

Rainy Friday

On Friday morning we went to see Grammy at her house! Lon learned some new things about how to work the computer.
unfortunately Grandma Phis got a bit of an asthma attack. Longhaired Cats are not good for Grandma Phis. We all went to CVS to get her medicine. Lon had a grand time being pushed around my Godfather Damian and Uncle Jeffy .

The next time we went to CVS to pick up something Lon did not want to go into the normal cart, it was the car cart or nothing doing!

After we made sure Grandma Phis was fine we went to lunch at a place called the Hide Away. Nice place. Grandma Phis got her oysters!

Lunch was good, food and company. We were going to go do something fun after lunch but it was raining buckets. Darn. We just hung out for the rest of the afternoon. Resting up for our last day in Connecticut.
