Sunday, still in Oregon!

Ah, the joys of the long weekend! We got to stay in Oregon all day Sunday and did not head home till Monday Morning!

Another super low minus tide (-2.8!!) This photo is taken almost at the water's edge. It is a LONG way back to the hotel!!

Those star fish are cool Mom!  Daddy was impressed with the size of the mussels.  Some of them were HUGE!! I walked along and found some more agates. It was fun searching for them.

After the beach we went to Regatta Park!  Lon was having a blast!!

They had a bunch of great stuff for young guys to play on!

What a great place to relax! It was a Rotary Park, we saw the sign over the picnic shelter.

After we took Lon away from Regatta Park, we went in search of the Covered Bridge. Mark found it without the aid of the garmin! Good Job, Mark! It was a pretty place! There was a house on the other side of the bridge, we did not go there. On our side of the bridge there was a barn, which was open, and inside there were some beautiful carriages. There were also signs for the fair.

Lon got up on the old tractor all by himself, so I took his picture. He was not so impressed with it once he got up there.  He said it did not look like it would be fun to sit in it for long.  He was probably right.

Otis, Oregon! Except for the gas station across the street, this was it.  We love all towns named Otis!

After our drive, we drove by Pig N' Pancake. We noticed it was not open for dinner. OH NO! So we stopped for lunch. Pancakes for lunch! Yummy! Lon ate his entire plate of sand dollar pancakes!

After lunch, Lon and I went to the beach. Daddy went for a walk down the beach to see how far he could go! Mark walked about 2 miles! Lon is trying to fly his Star Wars kite. We did okay.

Lon found a friend to help him dig in the sand! They had a great time on the beach digging deep trenches!

After our afternoon at the beach, we got a little cleaned up and went to a place called Roadhouse 101. Great burgers. It was a fun place to eat. They had buckets of peanuts on the tables and you could just toss your shells onto the floor! It was fun. Lon had a little trouble just tossing the shells on the floor at first, but he got used to it.

The next morning we made our way back up to home. We had a wonderful time in Lincoln City. We will be going back !!

Saturday Fun on the Coast

Saturday Morning we got up, went to the continental breakfast - with waffles! Then went out to the beach to enjoy the minus tide!  A minus 1.8! woohoo!

Lon went out with his net to hunt for crabs! He wanted to get something in his net!

Running, always running!

Some sea life that has been exposed due to the minus tide. I am not going to put in all the beauty beach shots I took. As I said before, it is hard to take a bad photo on the coast. I found my first agate that morning. A small moonstone. Mark found an L shaped piece of sea glass.

After a little more playing on the beach, we went down to Newport. We did some shopping first, then went to the Yaquina Bay Light House. It was open! We finally got to go in! I LOVE Lighthouses!

They had the lens inside, and the whole house was still period furnished. It was very interesting. The kitchen and the pantry were so tiny.  The whole house was tiny rooms, but well furnished and it looked like it was a comfortable place to live.

Around the back of the house, a docent was showing children of all ages some of the games that were played to pass the time. The one Mark is attempting is called Graces. I saw something like that at Colonial Williamsburg too. I think we will look into getting a set.

We went downtown to see the Sea Lions. There were two sunning themselves. One was a sleeping lump and this one who had lots of itches.  He kept scratching himself with his flipper and looked like her really enjoyed it.

Looking at the fishing boats.  After this, we went back to Lincoln City. Lon and Daddy went to the beach, I went to town and did a little walking around. I got my charm (a tiny crab) and a doughnut for Lon. After we met up again, the boys went swimming in the hotel pool. Lon loves the hot tub, but we only let him in for two or three minutes then he has to go back to the pool. He was having a great time. We went to dinner at a place called Kyllo's. It was wonderful!  I had halibut and prawns, which were amazing. Mark had Cioppino. Lon had fish and chips. It was all so good. I highly recommend the restaurant.  Lon went to bed a little earlier on Saturday than he did on Friday night. We love the coast! 

On the Road to Oregon

We planned out our lovely summer vacation and hit the road! This year, we are having a long weekend in Lincoln City, Oregon. We love the Oregon Coast and Lincoln City seems to be a good fit for us.
On Friday, July 9, we got up at O'dark thirty. The car was packed and ready to go already. Lon got to stay in his pjs!

Our first real stop was Fort Stevens State Park.  The wreck of the Peter Iredale has been a favorite place for me since I was a small child.  There is less of it now than when I first saw it.  It wrecked in 1906, and has been a tourist attraction ever since!

My boys.        We stopped for a lovely breakfast at Grandma's in Warrenton. It is a good place for breakfast. The french toast was wonderful. Lon ate almost all of his super giant blueberry pancake!

Had to take photos of cows in Tillamook County. Those are the cows that give the milk, that makes the best cheese, butter and ice cream! 

We drove down the Three Capes Scenic Lookout. The fog was very thick here!

Lon put on his sweatshirt, but refused to change out of his pjs!  It is cold without the sun!!

We made it to the beach were we would spend the next three days! Our hotel room was not ready yet, so we hit the beach!

Lon dug up alot of little rusty nails. We disposed of them properly

Lon is one happy camper! He loves the beach and the sand.

That night we went to Gallucci's pizza. We were all looking forward to it. However, it was not what we remembered. We were disappointed. On the upside, we got to try out other places to eat!  Lon is playing with the puzzle that the hotel staff put in his kid's bag!  We ordered the kid's package for Lon. That was really great, he got kites, games, toys, snacks. it was so much fun to watch him go though the bag and find all his goodies. There were even little airplanes!  We did not let him take those to any restaurants! So ends the first day on the coast!
