A Revolutionary Saturday in parts! Part 1

We wanted to get out of the house and see something new!  Mark found about a place called Eutaw Springs, it is the place where the last Revolutionary War battle in South Carolina was fought.

We went up through Ridgeville, which looks like a great place to go pick peaches soon

The sign on the other side said we are open!  So we drove down to take a look!

It did not look too open.  Maybe next time.

The farm does have a web site. It seems this was a land grant, and now the working farm has had the same owners for the last 100 years.   The house, which we did not see, is on the National Registar of Historic Places.   I do not think the house is open to the public.

Eutaw Springs is the site of the last major battle of the Revolution in South Carolina which took place on September 8, 1781, when the armies of General Nathanael Greene and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Stewart met near these limestone springs. Technically a British victory, the American forces decimated the British ranks forcing them to retreat once again to Charleston. One month later Lord Charles Cornwallis, commander of the British forces in America, surrendered at Yorktown, Virginia. The springs are under the waters of Lake Marion today, but most of the battleground is still above water. Part of the site is maintained as a park by the Santee-Cooper Authority. Major John Marjoribanks, British hero of the battle, is buried on the park grounds

Pancake Tuesday

While our scout day falls on tuesday, so does Pancake Tuesday. Also called Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras!   We did not have a meeting but the boys were encouraged to come to the Pancake dinner and be usefull.  They could earn the much desired service hours!

Pebbles, part 3

This week, Pebbles went in for her second round of shots. One more before her surgery at 5 months.

She has doubled her weight since we got her! She is 3. 6 pounds, still has her tiny sharp kitten teeth. Starting to get a real tail.  So far, she still loves the vet!! Unlike her brothers, she enjoys the cookies they give her.

Valentine's Court of Honor

This year Valentine's Day fell on a Tuesday.  This is our weekly boy scout meeting day.
Twice a year we have a Court of Honor, after winter camp and after summer camp.  This year, our winter Court of Honor was on Valentines.

Everyone brought treats.  I brought chocolate covered strawberry cupcakes and red velet cupcakes. Only a few red velvets were left.

Lon earned four merit badges, Aviation, Chemistry,  and Fingerprinting. He did not finish Oceanography in time for this Court of Honor

Pebbles Update

Pebbles survived the weekend,  more importantly the big boy cats survived her! They are all getting along and playing together now. No more hissing.  That was quick

Pebbles had her first vet appointment on Tuesday.  She did very well. She is 1 pound 13 ounces! Gaining weight at a good rate. The vet says she is about 5 weeks old, with a good sounding heart, no ear mites, and we found one flea. The flea is no more.

She has found her spot in the cat tree. We should get a new cat tree with three stations, so no one feels left out

Her favorite spot is zipped up in my hoodie. 

She likes to be warm. 

That is all for now.  Pretty soon she will be as big as the boys! 

Pebbles

Well, at least that is what we are going to call her so far

How could you say no to that face?

Someone posted in our neighborhood facebook page that they found this baby and she needs a new home.
We said yes.
They told us that they were at a storage unit and she just walked right up to them. Someone dropped the kitten off to fend for herself. They did not want to leave her there, so they took her home to find a real home for her.  I wonder about the people who left her.
She is very clean, no fleas, only hungry, but she is a kitten so she is always hungry

She LOVES Scout's toy. Scout is not so sure she should love his toy.

Folly Beach

Today we thougth we needed a bit of an adventure! We are not summer beach people, it is just too hot and crowded during the summer.  But we do LOVE the beach in winter. It rarely gets cold here, so it is always a fun time at the beach.

We wanted to try out the metal detector, we need more practice on how it really works. We did not find anything with it this time.  We will get better!!

Lon

Lon found a young beagle to play with!

Lots of people were out hunting shark teeth. I found one man who had found an entire baggie full. One was gorgeous, one still had it's serrated edge.

He helped me find one, showed me how to look for them.

We went to lunch at Rita's. Nice lunch. The fried shimp basket was very good, lightly breaded fresh shrimp. They were BIG and 14 of them in the basket!
Lon played with the dog who was behind us on the patio.

The shark tooth. While techinically this is the second one, the first one I lost. This one is now in one of my plastic jewel boxes.


On our way home we stopped at two new places, Sweet Belgium Waffles, in the Roper St Francis parking lot on Folly Road.  It was wonderful! We loved the waffles. Looking forward to coming back and trying more!

The second place was on 61, called Euro Market. An Eastern European grocery. It was a good thing we had lunch already, three were so many yummy things there ! We will be back before Easter!   The lady behind the counter wanted to sell me periogi and I said, I am sure they are delicious but I make my own. I think my grandmother would not be happy if I bought them!  But I will be back for the very nice borscht she told me about.
It was a wonderful day for an adventure.  It was great to be out on the beach!

I was so proud of Lon, when St. Nicholas came to church, we were staying to help decorate the church. He stood in line to talk to St. Nicholas. When St. Nicholas asked him what he wanted he said, I am not here to ask for anything this year, I am just going to say thank you for all you have given me already. I think this is the first time our St. Nicholas has ever heard that.  He was speechless!

I am sorry I have not taken photos in a long while or posted any of the few I did take. I am going to try to do better in this new year!  Two new blogs coming up!


I am still trying to figure out why Windows 10 will not download ALL the pictures from my camera.  It is frustrating but I am going to try to figure it out, but until then, I will use what I have.
