How We Got A Kitten

Monday was a cub scout den meeting!
Our activity for den was soccer!
We had a little difficulty figuring out who was on what team!
The boys went to shirts and skins. Only those boys who wanted to take off their shirts did,
There was no clear winner, but the boys had a great time

While they were playing, I saw something move in the open shed beside the boys
We found an abandoned kitten!
The kitten was staying where we could not reach him.
I went back with Lon the next afternoon, but no luck. We saw him and fed him but he would not let us get close enough to catch him.

We went back on Wednesday after school, with some more food.
Finally, I was able to grab a hold of him.
We went to Pet Smart. I knew they had a vet on duty and took walk ins. And we could get a carrier, food and a litter box there.
They told us he was a boy, he did not have worms, ear mites, or lukemia, or feline aids. All good things to know.
He is 12 weeks old  and probably had not been outside too terribly long.
He does have some fleas, but otherwise, he is healthy.

We brought him home and gave him a bath.
He did not move from my arms for a couple hours.
After bath picture
Sleepy boy.
He has had some food and a nap. He is now exploring his new domain.
Lon wants to call him bunches, but we are still open to another name.

Yes, Mark knew all about this from Monday night. This was not a surprise.

Playground Dedication

Today was the dedication of the new playground !
We all were supposed to bring a side dish to share. It turned out that we had hot dogs and desserts. I brought banana pudding, but Jen out did everyone with candy sushi! SO COOL! It was really tasty too!
They boys played on the new equipment
There was a paint your pumpkin table. Sharpies and tiny pumpkins. The kids LOVED it!
Mark looks over the table of desserts and hot dogs!
Lon loved the sushi Ms. Jen made!
Then it was back to playing
The weather could not have been better for this dedication party. We all had a great time!

Fun at Home Depot

This morning I helped a neighbor get some bookcases at Home Depot.  When we pulled into the parking lot there were fire trucks, balloons, pallets of plywood for work stations, lots of booths set up.  I knew I had to bring Lon back for this!
We brought Jack with us too!
After getting their aprons, they got their kits. The build this morning was an ambulance!  This was why all the fire engines, ambulances and police cars were there!
The boys built their ambulances mainly by themselves. I had to fix some bent nails or start a nail, but not too often. They had a great time with this.
There was some one handing out cups of treats, a big plastic cup with candy, stickers or tattoos in it.  When they got done with their ambulance, they got their certificate and pin.  Lon saw one kid with an entire apron covered in pins.  This is something he wants to do, the first saturday of every month.
Working hard at it
Putting the stickers on !
Then it was bouncey house time!
Checking out the fire engine
Lon realized that he had grown too big for the jr fire hats and gave his back.  He also noticed that some kids were taking 4 or more hats and wearing them at the same time. He did not think this was cool.

Checking out another engine

Checking out the back of the ambulance.
After playing the games, the pyramid was for target practice, the boys went and got a hot dog

What a fun way to spend the morning.
The boys had a great time!

Birds of Prey Campout

The boys went to the Birds of Prey campout again this year. September 27.
They had a wonderful time.
The tent.
There was much playing with the wagon
looking at the vultures
Watching the vulture cafe!
Part of the Hawk show
the whole camp!
The last picture. Lon took this one.

Happy Birthday !!

Today was our neighbor's birthday party!  It was at Monkey Joes. We had never been there.  It was like Jump Planet, but Jump Planet in Bothell is still the best bouncey house place EVER.
The cake I made for his birthday
It was the first time I played with fondant.

Waiting for the party to start
Mark made sure his cup was always just going to be his

Sweet Tea Festival

Today was Third Thursday. It was the Sweet Tea Festival!
At this tent you bought a mason jar glass for 5 dollars. It was refillable all evening with as much sweet tea as you could drink !  There were many booths set up with nibbles and tea.
My favorite tea was from Oscars. It was peach, mango and pineapple. Not too sweet, very nice!
This poor lady dressed as a grape must have been roasting! She was handing out samples of chocolate dipped fruit from Edible arrangements.  She must not have noticed how many times she offered me fruit, I had a strawberry, two apple slices, pineapple (shaped like a star!) and a strawberry. Lon had half the strawberry!
Waiting for the pizza to arrive from Famularis.
PIZZA TIME!
We watched some of the artists on short central.
Watched the trains go round the track! Always fun
We stopped for dinner at Zest.  It was not bad. Lon ate panko crusted chicken tenders, even after pizza.  Mark had a burger, it was National Cheeseburger Day after all. I had shrimp tacos!  with a pineapple salsa! They were good.  The service was good, but very slow getting our food out. It was slammin busy!
Beauty shot of our little town
Puppies were everywhere! We got to pet lots of puppies and it was wonderful!
We stopped by the pharmacy. Guerin's pharmacy is the oldest operating pharmacy in South Carolina. They have ice cream, and hot dogs too.   Lon of course got some mint chip! He ate all that too!
On our way back to the car, the train was coming through town!  Lon was nervous that I would not get off the tracks in time, but of course I did.
I had moved off the tracks now and we stood by the tracks and watched it go by.
Fast moving train! Lon was a bit nervous at first when we told him we were going to watch the train go by. After it was gone, it was AWESOME!
We stopped by a bakery called McKenzies. What a nice place! Lon got a brownie.   I will be back to that bakery.
The best part about tonight was we saw people we knew! That made it so much more fun !
