Fort Dorchester Colonial Re-enactment!

Today was a fun day! It started off with all of us going to Tanger Outlets to get Lon some shoes. Mommy got shoes, and a dress! Lon got one pair of water shoes and some socks. Daddy even got shoes!  Two pair of gym shoes.   We went over to Sake House for lunch. Lon thought it was SO cool!  The fire on the hibachi grill was amazing,   and the little peeing man the chef brought out to extinguish it.     The food was good.  It's been a long time since I have been to a hibachi place.
We had heard this was the weekend of the Re enactment at Fort Dorchester State Park.   Fun!

What we saw when we arrived
They had a little shop, and after over a year of asking, we finally gave in and Lon got his wooden knife!
Looking at the indigo dyed cloth. We have met the couple who runs the shop before. She dyes the fabric with her own grown indigo.   It's pretty cool

Looking at the archeology tent.  They do have an active dig going on.
The tower

Getting ready to drill
A table with the stuff they found in the dig. They have some great stuff, the lady who was telling us about all the items found a colonial lady's button. Beautiful!
Walking their dog.

Drilling
The captain was funny as he drilled the his men. He heard a barking dog and mentioned the French must be near by
On our way to watch the men fire. They do not fire any shot, just powder, but we have to be behind them and not too close as they fire into the trees!

One of the re-enactors showed us how they loaded the muskets. It was so cool to watch him!

FIRE!

Because we asked nicely, the company fired one more round!

They asked if anyone wanted their photo taken with the group, Lon was the first one up.  They thought he was great!
Lon told them about his new wooden knife and they encouraged him to show it off. So he did. Then they started making pirate jokes and noises.

We went over to the dig site, and the lady was explaining that the new hole in the side of the dig was from a guest armadillo ! But she was not going to reach in and pull him out any time soon.  They hope he goes away on his own accord.

It was starting to rain, so we decided that this was the best time to go home.

We were not done yet! We stopped by Ye Olde Fashioned to get some ice cream.
We saw people we knew!

What a great day!

But it was not over yet! At Ye Olde Fashioned we were reminded about the Knight's of Columbus movie night at St. Theresa's.  Lon and I decided we would love to see The Incredibles.  We had a great time. We hope that there are more people next month for the Prince of Egypt. We will be there. I might even make cookies!
Lon was so tired when we got home that he went straight to bed and was asleep before I even got upstairs

Boosterthon

Today was the boosterthon as Lon's school. Like the Jag-a-thon at his old school.  You get pledges and run.  This year they had to run in the teacher's parking lot since the rains made the field so wet and miserable it was unfit to run on.
Here comes Lon's class!   The fourth and fifth grades were out running at the same time.
Walking up to the starting line
The field of runners
Can you stop talking so we can run?

After the National Anthem, and a pace lap, they were off!
Some laps were walked, deep in conversation

Lon showing off the 1/2 of the noise makers. There were two blown up balloon things that got smacked together.  The kids were not supposed to have them, I got this half back after the photo so I could continue making noise and cheering for Lon!

Water break. It was a little chilly, 38 at the start, it warmed up to 40 towards the end of his time.
The chaos that was getting numbers recorded. Lon did 34 laps. He was trying to time it to get the 35 in, and not go over since once they got the 35, they had to sit out the rest of the time.  Too many kids in too small a space.
It was fun, Lon had a good time.  28 laps was 2 miles!

Fourth Grade PTA Program

Tonight was the PTA Fourth Grade Program.  I was not sure when it was, until this afternoon!  Of course we were not going to miss it ! It started at 6pm

A good selection !
Of course nothing ever starts on time.  Mark amused him self by taking the yellow yarn and a beat up nickle he found in Lon's coat pocket and wrapping the yarn around the nickle.  He hopes Lon finds it. He hopes Lon wonders how the yarn got wrapped around the nickel.

Our principal and PTA leader opening the show!
Taking the stage. The great thing for Lon's class was they were the third spiritual. They got to stay on the stage, the other two classes were on risers off to the side!
Getting ready to SING!
He is really singing!
Yes, he was supposed to wear his Spann t-shirt and black slacks.
Darn! It's over!

Half Day

The day after our fizzled snow day, we had a scheduled half day.  Half days here get out at 11am.  We were lucky enough to pick up Austin too!
Being goofy waiting for lunch.  Austin did not think we could get a real lunch at Dairy Queen. They do have meals, but they are only hot dog meals. He was sort of disappointed we were not going to have a lunch of just ice cream!

The goofyness was not ending!   Austin liked talking about turkeys. Not sure why. Lon jumped on that too. Soon everything we talked about was turkey related.
No ice cream until the hot dogs were gone. Ice cream is the best reward!

After getting homework done, then it was Disney Infinity game time!  Ranger is in the tall condo watching the game. We think he plays when no one else is home.

Snow Day

Yesterday, Tuesday,  they forecasted ice! Cold temperatures, nasty road conditions. They cancelled school at 4pm on Monday.  This was premature.  The cold never got cold enough to freeze much of anything.
Lon spent Monday night at Jacks, but they were back for breakfast. I promised them Belgian waffles, strawberries, whipped cream and bacon.  I said 8:30 they were back by 8!

Lon did not really want the strawberries, he still loves his maple syrup. Jack made up for it, he ate all the strawberries!  And they both polished off the bacon!  Yay!

After breakfast they put on a play for me. They used the stuffed animals as the actors. All about a mine. It involved ghosts, gold and a mine shaft.  It was called, Hey, this is mine!  Very cute

Then Alec came over and they played up in Lon's room for a while.

Lunch time.

After lunch when the boys decided to have a nerf battle upstairs, running through the hosue, I kicked them outside. Dressed warmly of course.

Lon was in bed early ! He was worn out from his snow day. While the snow and ice never came, Lon had a great snow day!

Blue and Gold Banquet 2015

Tonight was the Blue and Gold Cub Scout Banquet.     Lon would be advancing to Webelos 2. Next year it is Boy Scouts!
Mark got to hold Baby Connor !! Such cute boys

Lon waiting for the festivities to begin!  It was nice sitting and talking with him while Dad went and helped cook the pork loin and chicken for dinner!
Lon and Daddy watching the other dens move up

Lon's turn
Lon's Den, they are all now Webelo 2s!
Listening to how well the boys did this year!
Pinning on the Webelo's badge!
Proud Moment!
A Webelo!
The boys were going to sing us their camping song. Which is really cute. Lon took the microphone and started the song, but it was not well rehearsed.  I was proud of Lon for stepping up and taking the mic.
One of his den mates took the mic next. It was hard to hear them overall. Dinner was just about ready!
In the buffet line.  There was all sorts of yummies, the pork loin and the chicken were great. They had Brasilian Rice.
I did talk to  the gentleman who made it. He told me about a couple of great places to go for Brasilian food up in Goose Creek!

The Blue and Gold Banquet was great fun!

Now on to work toward the Arrow of Light! The highest rank a cub scout can get. Lon is determined!
